Cytology is the study and function of cells.
When a specimen for Cytology evaluation is collected, the
cellular material is processed in the laboratory to be reviewed microscopically.
This can be in the form of Gynecologic Cytology such as a Pap test, or samples from any other
body sites from which a fluid or cellular sample may be collected, ie. urinary tract,
respiratory, brest, thyroid.
Available Cytology Services
- ThinPrep® Pap Testing™ -- Hailed as a revolutionary development in cervical cancer screening, clincial studies have proven that the Thin Prep® Pap Test™ is far more effective in early detection of precancerous cells
then the conventional pap smear. The same specimen can be used to screen for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) , Chlamydia and Gonorrhoeae.
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA Hybrid Capture II Testing
- Chlamydia Trachomatis by Polymerase Chain Reaction
- Neisseria Gonorrhea by Polymerase Chain Reaction
- Non-GYN specimen processing -- specimens such as urines, sputums, bronchial washings and brushings, body cavity fluids, cerebral spinal fluids, gastric and esophageal washings and brushings, nipple secretions and fine needle aspirations (FNAs).
Reminder: The symptoms of cervical cancer are not always obvious, the best way to protect yourself is to undergo regular Pap testing, preferably ThinPrep® Testing™ due to its greater sensitivity and accuracy.
